The Hampton Junior Football Association has been an integral part of the Hampton Township youth sports landscape since 1995. Our football and cheerleading programs serve children in our community ages 6-12. We provide a great environment in which participants can learn the fundamentals of tackle football and recreational cheerleading while working hard, having fun and making new friends.
Ages 6-8 / maximum player weight = 110 lbs.
Ages 9-10 / maximum player weight = 130 lbs.
Ages 11-12 / maximum player weight = 150 lbs.
Football practices are held, rain or shine, five days per week (M-F) from early August through the start of the school year and then scaled back to three days per week (Tue/Wed/Thur) from the start of school through the end of season (mid to end October depending upon playoff participation). Cheerleading practices follow the same general schedule until the girls have their routines perfected and then scale back as the weather becomes less favorable. We practice at the Hampton High School “Blue” Field (adjacent to the new baseball field) and play our home games at Fridley Field. Our regular season begins mid August, with a possible 3-game post-season beginning mid October. The 2018 Super Bowl will be held on November 3, 2018. All games are played on Saturdays.
Purchasing and maintaining football equipment is an expensive proposition, so the HJFA loans nearly all of the required items to our participants for their use during the season. For cheerleaders, this includes the uniform (skirt/top) and rain poncho. For players, this includes helmet, shoulder pads, practice uniform and game uniform. Participants are required to purchase their own base layers and footwear per HJFA specifications. Details are provided during registration.
While there are risks involved with athletics, much can be done to mitigate these through physical conditioning, the teaching of proper technique and use of excellent safety equipment. We follow the same heat acclimatization guidelines, participate in the same concussion awareness training and use the same equipment reconditioning protocols as does our high school football program. We begin our practices with a period of calisthenics and cardio to improve player strength, flexibility and stamina. We leverage the resources available through the American Youth Football, NFL Play 60 and other programs to learn from the best minds in the game regarding the use of safer and more effective drills. We purchase top-of-the-line safety equipment and return our helmets and shoulder pads to the manufacturer after each season of use to be thoroughly reconditioned according to NOCSAE standards. Players and cheerleaders are supervised at all times.
Parent and Family Participation
As the saying goes, “Many hands make light work”. The HJFA thrives as the result of the strong commitment of our families to the program at large. It takes an army of volunteers to conduct a successful season. Each family is required to serve three (3) home game concessions or game day operations positions. These are easy responsibilities, all done with the support of seasoned veterans, and are a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Additionally, there are a number of volunteer co-coordinator roles available for 2018 as we prepare the next generation of leadership.
We welcome high school student volunteers as well. The HJFA is a great place to earn community service hours. Hampton requires a minimum of 10 hours per year (grades 9-12) for graduation and a minimum of 100 hours for National Honor Society candidates.

Fees and Registration
We expect to open registration beginning April 2nd.
For 2018, we again have eliminated the mandatory fundraisers that have traditionally been included in our registration and are introducing a simplified fee structure. The registration fee is $100 through April 30th, $135 from May 1st through May 31st, and then $185 starting June 1st. Online registration will allow families to pay via credit/debit card or PayPal. Each registrant receives complimentary admission to our end-of-season banquet and a gift.
